Daniel Day-Lewis, the greatest living actor, officially retired after his final role in Phantom Thread (2017), returns to acting. He is making an exception to star in Anemone, a film directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, and co-written by both father and son. Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, Safia Oakley-Green and Adam Fogerty also joined the cast, and the film is scheduled to premiere in September 2025 at the New York Film Festival, followed by a theatrical release in October 2025.
Produced by Focus Features and Plan B (with Brad Pitt among its founders), Anemone is a drama exploring the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons. The story centers on a suburban man (Sean Bean) who ventures into Northern England’s woods to reconnect with his estranged brother (Daniel Day-Lewis), a hermit.
